Stockholm is Swedens capital and largest city with a population of 736000 citizens. The city was grounded in 1252 and is now 750 years old. Stockholm is located on 14 islands and 52 bridges connects the different parts. Stockholm archipelago consist of 24000 islands with different sizes. The small city Waxholm a bit outside Stockholm is central in the archipelago water communications. Among the interesting islands around Stockholm is Fjäderholmarna, Grinda , Nåttarö, Öja (Landsort), and Oaxen. The water is clean enough for fishing in the city area. National City Park in Stockholm consist of several famous park areas as Djurgården and The Haga Park. A national park outside Stockholm with primeval forest and natural beauty is Tyresta. Wellknown parts of Stockholm is Södermalm (south Stockholm) , Gamla Stan (old town), Östermalm (east Stockholm) and Djurgården. Södermalm is the bohemian Stockholm with many people working with culture. Gamla Stan is the oldest city area with Stockholm Castle in the north and a lot of small shops along the streets with old houses. Östermalm is known as the highclass area in Stockholm for the people with money and high society. Djurgården is a nature area for recreation and also the museum and family park area with art, history, rides and animals. A main attraction here are the big Skansen park, an animal and cultural park with a lot of historic houses moved to Skansen from all parts of Sweden. |
